Vocation Awareness Week 2012 - Part 6

As we end Vocation Awareness Week, we hope that you continue to reflect on your vocation.  How is God calling you?  Will you best live your life as a nun, sister, priest, brother, deacon, lay woman or man, married, single, volunteer, young adult, or some combination of these?  What is the best way in which you can serve God, the Church and World?  You probably put a lot of thought into whether to become a doctor, an accountant, a teacher, or whatever your profession is.  Take some time to consider where and how God has called you and might be calling you for the future.

And now, a few quotes on vocation to assist with your contemplation.

"What will you do with your one, wild, precious, life?"  Mary Oliver

"For I know the plans I have for you,” declares the LORD, “plans to prosper you and not to harm you, plans to give you hope and a future."  Jeremiah 29:11

"The desire to be relevant and successful with gradually disappear, and our only desire will be to say with our whole being to our brothers and sisters of the human race, ‘You are loved. There is no reason to be afraid. In love God created your inmost self and knit you together in your mother’s womb’ (see Psalm 139:13)." Henri Nouwen

"Before I formed you in the womb I knew you, before you were born I set you apart; I appointed you as a prophet to the nations."  Jeremiah 1:5

"Many people mistake our work for our vocation. Our vocation is the love of Jesus." Mother Teresa

"It is not more vacation we need - it is more vocation."  Eleanor Roosevelt

"The Spirit of the Lord is upon me, because he has anointed me to bring glad tidings to the poor."  He has sent me to proclaim liberty to captive and recovery of sight to the blind, to let the oppressed go free, and to proclaim a year acceptable to the Lord."  Luke 4:18-19
